A urinary tract infection (UTI) during pregnancy may seem minor, but it’s one of those things you should never ignore. Many mums don’t even realise how dangerous it can become if left untreated.

🌸 Why UTIs Are Common in Pregnancy

During pregnancy, hormonal changes relax your urinary tract, slowing down the flow of urine. At the same time, your growing uterus puts extra pressure on the bladder — making infections easier to develop.

Yes, frequent urination is normal when you’re expecting, but if it:

  • Burns when you pee

  • Smells bad or looks cloudy

  • Has blood in it, or

  • Comes with fever or chills

🚨 That’s not normal — it’s a warning sign of infection.

⚠️ Why UTIs in Pregnancy Need Quick Attention

Untreated UTIs can lead to:

  • Kidney infections, and

  • Preterm labour or early delivery

That’s why early diagnosis and treatment matter — both for your safety and your baby’s health.

💡 Tips to Stay UTI-Free During Pregnancy

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to flush bacteria out naturally.

  • Empty your bladder often: Don’t hold your pee, especially after intercourse.

  • Maintain intimate hygiene: Wipe front to back, and avoid harsh cleansers.

  • Wear breathable cotton underwear: Keeps the area dry and infection-free.

  • Consult your gynaecologist early if you suspect symptoms — safe antibiotics are available during pregnancy.

Remember: Staying aware and acting early can protect both you and your little one.Your comfort, health, and peace of mind matter most!
